Keep Going No Matter What

When the challenges come, as they will, you get a choice, to crumble and fall or get up and keep going no matter what.

Whatever life throws at you it is imperative that you keep going no matter what. You’ve got to be tough, stand up to those things you face, stay resilient and just keep going.

“If you are going through hell, keep going” Winston Churchill

We all face times where we begin to question the things we do, what we are trying to achieve. We question ourselves and doubt what we are actually going to achieve in our life.

Most of you right now probably lead lives full of stress and struggling with your every day challenges. Fighting for survival. Getting to the point of just accepting life will never work out as you once dreamed. Many of you can’t even remember those dreams.

“Life is either a daring adventure, or it is nothing.” Helen Keller

Consider the fullness of life and don’t be one-dimensional, i.e., ‘trapped’ by your work and life. Go for your dreams, and endure so you keep going no matter what. Never forget life is a journey. You need to carry on if you want to reap the rewards.

I found this quote that demonstrates todays message:

“Keep going. No matter what you do, no matter how many times you screw up and think to yourself “there’s no point to carry on”, no matter how many people tell you that you can’t do it – keep going. Don’t quit. Don’t quit because a month from now you will be that much closer to your goal than you are now. Yesterday you said tomorrow. Make today count.”

How do you find the strength to keep moving forward? In what way do you overcome pain, rejection, disappointment or failure? How not to give up when everything seems against you? What can you do to persevere?

“I do not think that there is any other quality so essential to success of any kind as the quality of perseverance. It overcomes almost anything, even nature.” John D. Rockefeller.

Perseverance derives from the Latin words Per meaning Through and Severus meaning Severe -that is, through the severe and difficult.

Success on any level requires the ability to follow through, to execute a plan (Check out the Single Page Plan), to persevere … to stick with it.

There are some basic requirements for you to be able to keep going.

1. Know what you want.

Be specific. Think big. The bigger the goal the more motivated you will be and empowered to carry on no matter the obstacles you face. Be realistic of course, but push yourself, no big goal is easy. When you have a vision held at the front of your mind, so big, so exciting it truly drives you, and believe me you will keep going no matter what.

2. Keep your goal visible at all times.

You have to be fully focused on your goals. From the minute you get up in the morning to the time you go to bed, they need to be driving most of what you do. Keep them in your minds eye, keep them visible whether on a post it note on your bathroom mirror, in your wallet or on a single page of paper. Read them over and over throughout the day. Remind yourself of where you’re going and what you’re going to achieve.

3. Know your why

Why do you want what you want? Do you want fame? Do you want to increase your income? Your why gives you your compelling reasons for wanting something. They give your goals meaning, importance, they put the juice in your engine. What will achieving your goal mean to you? Do you want it badly enough? Only if you do will you put the effort in needed.

4. Follow a plan

Be specific, draw up a plan with the steps you need to implement, and take action. Ask yourself ‘What are the steps I have to take to achieve this goal? Deciding in advance when and where you will take specific actions to reach your goal can double or triple your chances for success. By your actions you are less likely to be knocked off course and it gives you a plan to follow to ensure you keep going.

5. Keep Taking Action

Whatever your goal, you need to put in time and effort. Developing the mental strength to persevere is important and will be demonstrated best by you putting in the hours, working hard, staying focused. This action will bring you closer to your goal. Remind yourself that if you want to change your life for the better you need to be taking action. Day after day till you succeed.

6. Face up to all obstacles

Having the ability to face up to life’s challenges is essential, but it can be really difficult to do. Practice seeing obstacles for what they are, problems needing solutions, and know every challenge has an answer you have to just keep going and find it.

Ultimately, we must take stock of our inner power, be motivated by our dreams and goals and just keep going. How long for? Until we achieve what we set out for.

“Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better.” Samuel Beckett

There are so many examples of people who persisted. An article I wrote a while ago A Failure to Success Story J.K. Rowling tells of her story of persistence prior to the success of the Harry Potter Books.

Jim Carrey’s family were so poor that he had to drop out of high school at the age of 15 and get a job as a janitor just to help support them.

Oprah Winfrey was sexually abused from the age of 9, by her cousin, uncle, and a family friend. At the age of 14 Oprah got pregnant, but her son died shortly after birth.

I’m sure we have all read that It took Thomas Edison 1,000 attempts before inventing the light bulb.

What makes you keep going no matter what? Is there anything you can add from your experience? Let me know in the comments section below.

“The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work.” Oprah Winfrey
