We only have one life to live so we have to live it in the best way we can, trying everything and being willing to experience both failure and success.

One of the essential things we all need to learn is how to change our thinking about failure and success.

It’s the norm to look at both success and failure as opposites. We either move in the direction of one or the other. This makes it seem that they’re both on opposite poles. Well they aren’t. Failure is the stepping stone to our success, as I said the other day failure is merely a bus stop on our journey. . We do have to go through failure to achieve success. It’s rare for anyone to achieve anything meaningful without experiencing failure first.

Look at the inventor Thomas Edison, he failed far more times than he succeeded. British inventor James Dyson only succeeded on his 5,127th attempt to create a working version of a dual-cyclone bagless vacuum cleaner. Failure and success are inter related, and to achieve success I believe you have to meet failure.

Think about these words he is quoted as saying:

“I wanted to give up almost every day. But one of the things I did when I was young was long distance running, from a mile up to ten miles. I was quite good at it, not because I was physically good, but because I had more determination. I learned that the moment you want to slow down is the moment you should accelerate.” James Dyson

When I went through an incredibly difficult time of my life, when everything I had worked so hard for seemed to have slipped away from me, I still knew one thing and that was I wanted more success in my life. So I went for it.

What I learnt or the best interpretation I could put on my situation to allow me to continue and not give up was there are times when  things simply don’t work out, and you’ve got to have the courage to try again.

“Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently.” Henry Ford

My failure could have been paralysing but I was able to drive myself forward through my desires and belief in myself,  success could be mine once again, I just knew it was possible.

This mindset seems to bring to you opportunities, and all you need to do is jump in with both feet and give it your best shot. After all i[m sure most of you have heard the expression ”If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”

Bill Cosby’ s words sum up my thinking when he said:

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.” Bill Cosby

Never forget failure is a stepping stone to success!
