Today I want to get you thinking. What if you could take your passions and make a living doing what you love? Have I got your attention now?
One of the most common things you will see that I write about is that you should find something you love and make a business out of it. In fact, I would argue until I’m blue in the face that there is no better way of making a really good living than turning your passion into a career.
I love getting people to think about what their passion is. Everyone has something they love and are good at. This is what they should be doing with their life!
I have come to learn that the internet truly provides one of the best ways to earn a substantial living available to everybody. Alas many fly by night, get rich quick marketers frequent the internet and speak of the millions you’ll make overnight and unfortunately so many have been led astray by these crooks, who call themselves gurus. Many of these come to you wearing a Network Marketing Company hat telling you how joining their team is going to make you financial independent and secure for life, when in reality most fail to make a cent after years of trying.
I was talking to such a person yesterday. A great character, a talented writer, a man who would genuinely support another in need. Someone I know can make an incredible living online with the right model following his passions. Yet he had followed payment plan after payment plan put forward by a variety of Network Marketing Companies, and has never got anywhere. He is not alone. And as I said to him he shouldn’t shoulder the blame.
I asked him a question
‘If you had all the money in the world, how would you spend your time?’
He said ‘I’d be playing golf as much as I could!’
So I had a sneaking suspicion I’d rather easily identified his passion. Don’t you?’
I then said, so if there was a way to turn your passion for golf into an endless stream of income, would that idea appeal to you?
His answer not surprisingly was ‘YES!’
You see my point to him is like so many other he has been trying to make money from network marketing. Dealing with products he has no true passions for doing things that don’t really sit comfortably with him. And not surprisingly it’s got him nowhere.
What a frustrating way to work. In fact I’d call it soul destroying. Yet we all have a hobby we wish that we could do all day, that obsession that at times keeps us up at night. What sense then it makes to take those passions and make a living doing what you love. Wouldn’t our days be far more enjoyable, our work be that much more exciting …. If you could make money doing this, wow wouldn’t this just be incredible. Well you can.
The power of the Internet used correctly can certainly turn these passions into a real business. I asked this guy to imagine my simple model of an online ecommerce shop plus members area with his own products and a blog built around everything golf. Would that excite him?
He said of course it would. ‘If I really could make money from golf, it would be so fantastic’. Well he can. About that there is not a doubt.
The Internet, of course, is ideal for creating passive income. After all, a website never sleeps. It has the potential to earn you money 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
He would have to work really hard for a few years to build a business, but in time that effort will be so worth it. And the best thing is, I’ll be by his side helping him along. .I’m also passionate about his business and his success. And I think that this passion shows when I help others.
This is illustrated with a lady I’m working with at the moment. She does small crafts which is really fun for her, but trying to build a business around small items you’ve created by hand requires a lot of your time, money and effort. I know she loves what she makes, and is really proud of it, but that’s not how she’s going to make her long term future. For her it’s better to build a course that teaches others how to craft and sell that as well as teaching other crafters how to make money, yes from selling their products, because she’s done that better than most, my job is to just take her to the next stage. But what a caring woman she is, because she saw how what she was doing could also offer others a way to fulfil their dreams and she could give them a channel through which to sell their craft products. This is the creativity, maybe brilliance that comes from following your passion.
But back to my golfing friend. He is now focusing on how his passion is going to help other people. Focusing on his passion and skills he will now build an awesome business. How he can serve people and really bring value to the world. His blog I know will be brilliant, and his business no doubts will start with an ecommerce shop selling equipment and accessories, as well as golf breaks and holidays. I’m sure he’ll tie up with a few of the best affiliate golf programs out there ones he truly believes in, and will no doubts promote a few golf courses once his tried them out by playing their 18 holes. That will be a hardship, the life of a blogger hey.
I can’t wait for him to come back to me with his ideas for his own products.
One thing I know, his going to make money and love every minute of his working time … can you say that about your work?
