Why is the Power of Passion so important to me? Why do I write so frequently on following your passions, and do what I love? In the first instance I would say it is because I believe whole heartedly that this is the best thing that you can do for yourself.

Yet the second reason is as motivating to me as anything else, and that is the fact that I am the father to two daughters, and the grandfather to one very beautiful little girl. . I know the importance of following your passion, and the best thing I can do for my own offspring is to keep reminding them of this fact, keep writing it, keep living it. Demonstrate it by the way I am in everything I do.

Over the past years, I’ve been realising more and more than one of the advantages of blogging is that indirectly we can ensure that our beliefs and thoughts can constantly be put in front of those whose lives we want to touch the most. Although I know that when I write their names I could do nothing more embarrassing in their eyes, I also know more often than not they stop by to see what’s their dad’s been writing.

Well today I’m back on my pulpit preaching that when you follow your heart you will live a life where everything you ever wanted will be available to you, and you will find yourself loving every minute of your life. Your true heart’s desires is what motivates and inspires you beyond anything else, and by following what you love means you avoid living a life that’s mundane and just filled with struggle and difficulty.

I wish my parents had taught me to follow my passions, do what I love, basically follow my heart when I was just starting out, but I’m glad I discovered it, because no matter your age, once you begin to do those things you have a genuine passion for your life which changes everything so much for the better.

Sometimes I watch people as they go to work, or go about their daily lives. You can see it in their face, eyes and body posture whether or not they are following their heart and doing what they love. You know that look, those slouched shoulders, stressed expression and empty eyes.

So many put their lives on hold, forgetting their passions while they pursue careers which hold no excitement or pleasure for them, but which they believe offer a route to a ‘proper’ well paying job.

When you leave school, you are asked what you want to do. When you talk about your dreams and your passion you are quickly re-directed to take subjects and careers more likely to bring in the money or pointing you into a conventional easily classifiable career.

You are told to forget about your dreams and your passions. They are for day dreamers. Yet in whatever direction you go, there will be many years of study and dedication required in order to succeed.

Our schools will always direct us to find what is in their mind a proper job. They force us to pursue a career which generally has nothing to do with our passion. When you think about it, if you don’t follow your passions then you will end up doing things each and everyday that you don’t enjoy for the rest of your life in order to make a living.

Don’t make this the route you take! Instead ask yourself the question “How would you really enjoy spending the rest of your life?”

I think your answer will involve your current interests, hobbies or talents.

Isn’t it better to follow your passion. You may have to do a bit of soul-searching and ask yourself a lot of questions. Take a look inside your heart and ask yourself what you would love to do more than anything else in the world.

The journey will be so worth it. You must start by finding the courage to find out what your heart wants. It may be a scary process, as you may likely reveal that what you heart wants, is in fact the complete opposite of what you are actually doing. You may experience feelings of confusion, self-doubt and even regret as you begin to challenge everything you have come to know about yourself. If you are ready to connect with your heart and follow your passion then you will need to let go of everything you think you know.

Your alternative is to work in jobs that do not satisfy you, and more than likely you will feel sad and empty, hating the work you do.

I believe it is time for each of us to wake up and connect with what we really want. And then we need to act on it. We need to take risks and have the courage to move toward our goals fearlessly with 100% commitment.

In order to do this, we must be willing to be different, to do things differently and to challenge the expectations that others hold of us.

We each have a unique gift, talent or service to bring to this world. The key to discovering what it is, is tuning in to your heart and finding out what you love. So now go do this for yourself.
