10 self-care tips for Entrepreneurs
Share

These self-care tips for entrepreneurs are essential if you are to avoid ill health and the negative consequences this can have on your business.

It is important that entrepreneurs take care of themselves as well as they do their business. That’s a no brainer surely.

You can easily spot an entrepreneur. They are the last to leave the office and often work on weekends and holidays.

Make no mistake about it, one of the priorities of any entrepreneur is to ensure they are taking care of their health and this necessitates self-care.

“The Western workplace culture — exported to many other parts of the world — is practically fuelled by stress, sleep deprivation, and burnout. This is profoundly — and negatively — affecting our creativity, our productivity, and our decision making: the very things entrepreneurs need in order to succeed.”

Arianna Huffington

Being an entrepreneur is challenging. Every day is a constant battle with uncertainty and doubt. But it can be a lot harder if you don’t actively make yourself a bigger priority than your business. What would the result be on your business if you were absent long term due to ill health and burnout?

Most entrepreneurs allow their business to steal 90% of their time. This is what leads to burnout and all kinds of other health issues.

Here are just a few self-care tips for entrepreneurs that you should do every day to ensure that you are able to succeed at the highest level in your business and in life.

1. Get sufficient sleep.

There are some things you cannot sacrifice if you are genuinely interested in looking after your health, one of which is sleep. Sleep is essential for recharging your mind, body and soul. You need at least 8 hours of sleep a night.

2. Exercise on a regular basis

Like getting sufficient sleep, exercising on a regular basis should be a high priority . Exercise relieves stress, clears your mind, and ultimately makes you more productive. Also your body needs it. Get plenty of exercise, even a brisk walk at lunchtime will raise your endorphin levels, your body’s natural happy hormones that will help counter balance any stress chemicals. You need to be doing at least 30 minutes of exercise five days a week.

3. Set definite time slots when you don’t work.

It is essential that you set yourself specific time slots where you don’t work and instead take time out for yourself. Maybe to spend time with family or carrying out a hobby. Protect these time slots and keep them going on a regular basis. They are sacred and they are key to self-care.

4. Eat a healthy diet

Eat a sensible diet that includes plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables while cutting down on fatty foods, salt and starch. Food is your fuel. You need it to provide you energy. Physically and mentally for you to be at your best you need to eat well. Be prepared so that you don’t make bad choices.

5. Stay in control of your thoughts

How often do you let things spiral out of control in your head? There are times when we are faced with problems, manic deadlines, let down by suppliers, all sorts of pressures which cause havoc in our minds. The stress and negativity can be extremely damaging and is why its essential you remain in control of your thoughts and feelings. Remember to see your problems as challenges that can be overcome. It is all about how we deal with problems emotionally that matter.

6. Take a break.

Entrepreneurs are notorious for working seven days a week without ever taking a break. I have been guilty of this myself on more occasions than I care to admit. It is so important that you do give yourself breaks from work. Maybe a long weekend every month, at least 1 day off a week, where you spend the day hanging out with friends and family, not at home researching or working on your laptop.

7. Surround yourself with positivity

Why would you want to spend even one second more than necessary surrounded by negative or pessimistic people? One of the quickest ways to skyrocket your success and happiness is to start intentionally cutting out negative relationships and cultivating positive ones.

8. Mentally get yourself right

Rest and relaxation are of utmost importance for mental health. Just 10 minutes with a guided meditation or just a relaxing piece of music will work wonders for your mind and body.
Whether it’s an emotion, a thought, a belief, an impulse, or something in the environment, mindfulness calls us to approaching everything with a curious, nonjudgmental, open, and accepting attitude. To be the most resilient and mentally strong, make the time to  be mindful so you can focus on what you truly want. Stay in a good place.

9.  Be grateful.

Gratitude can transform any common day into a thanks giving day and turn routine jobs onto joy and change ordinary opportunities into something we get grateful about. Take time to be grateful for what you have, for what you do, for who you are with and for what they do.

10. Don’t take life to seriously

Maybe it is better to say give yourself times to laugh. Fun is so important. Be good at your work, but also be good in life. Make fun moments, put a smile on your face as well on the faces of others. Build a great business but build a happy contented life too. Make it all pay off for you.

Focus on having a life you LOVE!

Take some time each day to invest in yourself, follow these self-care tips for entrepreneurs and you will see a bigger return than you thought possible.

You have to take care of and prioritize yourself so that you can properly serve your company, your employees, and your clients. Follow these self-care tips if you want to your best by all of them.
